The Behind The Scenes

Kristen Stewart takes one more step toward immortality in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” She’s put her own stamp on Bella, who’s determined to take a walk down the aisle and spend eternity with her vampire lover Edward, played by Robert Pattinson.

Stewart told Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf that, just like her character, she’s grown a lot since “Twilight” first became a cultural phenomenon. But some things haven’t changed.

Honesty is the best policy, no matter what
“I’ve always said that I’m not ashamed of anything that I say because I’m always being honest, even though you can definitely make mistakes. That’s Bella in a nutshell, so I can completely relate to her. I think it’s a good thing to be proud of who you are, no matter what. Success is always something completely different for different people. I feel like I’ve succeeded if I’m doing something that makes me happy and I’m not lying to anybody. That’s why I feel really good about myself right now.”

So does her romance with RPattz go beyond the screen?
“It’s hard to actually take details of your personal life and apply them in a scene because as much as you can identify with a feeling, you just get muddled. As soon as you start bringing your own stuff in, it’s like, ‘No, that’s not right.’ You’re playing a different person. You have to leave that stuff at the door.”

Kissing him onscreen wasn’t the problem
“One of the most challenging scenes was probably finally kissing Jacob for the first time. Bella has got such tunnel vision that Edward is the only thing for her. That’s a strange perspective. So when Taylor Lautner and I kissed, it felt like such a different dynamic. I was nervous as hell.”

Relating to Bella’s dad talking about the birds and the bees
“It was funny the way Bella got so embarrassed in that scene. I guess a lot of girls do because they probably don’t need that lecture. I probably had that moment. I guess that everybody does. But I knew everything, from the word go. I was really mature, that way. So, I never really had ‘the talk.’ I didn’t need it.”

Giving in to fame
“I’ve definitely relaxed because I’ve like sort of just relinquished control. There’s nothing I can do, but who I am, or whatever. It used to freak me out. I still wish I could tell myself to just like calm down. But that’s it.”

Glamming up for the red carpet
“I’m definitely having more fun with it. Usually, if I don’t like what I’m wearing, you totally know it. It’s like written all over me. That’s why I have to make sure I get it right for me. I’m much more comfortable with my dress choices now. I feel like it’s actually like I’m wearing clothes that I would wear, and not like I’m wearing weird things to events that hardly function as clothing.”

Looking forward to “Breaking Dawn”
“I really can’t wait to get into it because I’ve been on the outskirts of what it would feel like to play a vampire. It’s been years of dealing with these issues and I’ve thought about it a lot. It’s going to be a trip. It’s going to be weird. I think Bella is going to be the coolest blood sucker of all of them. She’s got the greatest power. She’s untouchable. She’s impenetrable. I think it’ll be awesome to see how much she’s changed from ‘Twilight,’ where she was this 17-year-old kid who really didn’t care about a whole lot. Now, she’s going to become the matriarch.”

Looking ahead
“I don’t really plan out my career a whole lot. My choices come from the gut. I need to have a really distinct feeling before I do a movie, and I never know what that’s gonna be. So far, I’ve chosen really different things. I know some people think I’ve played a lot of disaffected teen-age girls, but that’s sort of how girls are at that age. I think to play a completely mindless happy person would be mindless and fun and happy, but boring.”

LOS ANGELES – The stars of “Twilight” are already looking forward to the final two installments in the vampire franchise.

Author Stephenie Meyer’s fourth and final “Twilight” book, “Breaking Dawn,” is splitting into two parts, and while scripts are still being written, star Kristen Stewart says she knows exactly where the fourth movie should end: With Bella having just given birth and Edward being forced to change her into a vampire to save her life.

“I feel like it’s so obvious where you break it up. It’s as soon as she turns,” Stewart told AP Television at a weekend publicity event for the third “Twilight” film, “Eclipse,” opening June 30. “Gosh, you open your eyes to this different world, right? That would be amazing.”

Stewart said she’s looking forward to her character’s development in the final two films, the first of which is set for release Nov. 18, 2011.

“It’s such a crazy concept though,” she said. “I’m going to be playing a wife and a mother and a vampire. I haven’t read the scripts … but I don’t see where else it could split other than when she turns. … I’m really curious as to what I’m going to be doing in the next six months.”

Co-star Taylor Lautner said he approved of Stewart’s idea, and praised the decision by film distributor Summit Entertainment to break up the last book.

“There’s so much to cover,” he said. “Because you’ve got to deal with the marriage, you’ve got to deal with the kid. I mean, maybe the split of the wolfpack, because that’s very important as well. But it’ll be interesting. Wherever it splits, whatever happens, I’m trusting (director) Bill Condon, because he’s extremely talented.”

Condon, who directed “Dreamgirls” and “Kinsey,” will direct both films.

Stewart said she actually can’t wait for the franchise that made her a star — and a paparazzi target — to come to its conclusion.

“Gosh I mean come on, get on with it definitely,” she said. “The feeling that I get before and during working on a new movie is you want the story to be told so bad because you’re worried that it’s not going to be right and get out. I’m so concerned with getting every scene right. This story is constantly weighing on me because it’s not done. So I can’t wait to finish it.”

As the highly-anticipated Twilight Saga: Eclipse prepares to descend on theaters June 30, stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner get together in L.A. for a frank discussion about the roles they play within the Twilight universe — both on screen and off. They also open up about their Oprah appearance, staying fit, and what it took to film a climactic scene in Eclipse, in which the three characters are forced to wait out a blizzard in incredibly close proximity.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: One scene fans have been dying to see takes place in the tent during the snowstorm. Jacob warms up Bella with his body because Edward is cold-blooded and can’t do it himself.
LAUTNER: The tent scene is probably my favorite, because it’s the first time Edward and Jacob are actually able to connect and understand each other.

How many takes did you go through to get that scene?
LAUTNER: Two days originally to film it, and then a full day of reshoots.

Why?
PATTINSON: [The director] wanted it to be more erotic. Seriously.

STEWART: It’s true. In the book there’s a serious sexual tension. As I’m sleeping, Jacob is staring over my vulnerable body, and he’s naked in this f-?-?-ing sleeping bag because you heat up faster that way, and Jacob and Edward are leveling with each other.

Taylor, you and Rob have some pretty serious confrontations in this movie.
LAUTNER: Some of those scenes were pretty hard for me. I think we ruined a couple of takes in front of the house and in the tent. It’s just, I don’t know, I have a hard time looking at him…
STEWART: Ha! “I have such a hard time looking at him”!
LAUTNER: [Laughs] I wasn’t finished. He and I were thisclose to each other — we are literally, like, an inch away — and we’re screaming at each other.
STEWART: And about to kiss…
LAUTNER: A couple of moments it felt like that.
PATTINSON: Every single time we had to do a threatening thing to each other — for one thing, you always have your shirt off, and so in the tent scene I literally grabbed your breast. And it’s very difficult to remain in the moment. Also, in that tent scene, I can’t really get over the fact that the word thought sounds like fart.
STEWART: The word thought does not sound like fart.
PATTINSON: It does.
STEWART: Maybe because you are an English person.
PATTINSON: The opening line of that scene is “Can you at least keep your farts to yourself?” I couldn’t quite get over that.
